INTRODUCTION TO CALLED TO OBEDIENCE

Called to Obedience was created to be a discipling process through which you will learn to implement principles of biblical obedience. This is not to be considered a program but rather a call to practice the principles presented; hopefully, for the remainder of your life.

The Scriptures are filled with God's powerful truths, including His insights, mysteries, commands and promises. These studies present God's Word as the central focus around which you, as a follower of Christ, are commanded to build your life. Therefore, it is crucial that you read each verse that is referenced. The hope is that you will seriously delve into God's precepts with the goal of developing a lifestyle of biblical obedience.

The materials point you to Scripture to give you a greater awareness and understanding of your sin, which hopefully will lead you to confession and repentance. As you "put off' sinful motives, attitudes, thoughts and behaviors, you are also offered many practical tools to "put on' scriptural teachings in your relationships to God and to others. (Eph. 4:22-24) Through your decisions to obey Christ, you will come to know Him in a more intimate way.

God charges you with the responsibility to be deeply involved with one another. You are told to love one another, to be devoted to one another, to bear one another's burdens, to confess your sin to one another, to admonish one another. These materials are designed to be used most effectively in the context of this type of personal accountability with another Christian.

God's truths are created to be passed to another “life to life” in the framework of experience. The New Testament church grew rapidly and radically as believers shared what they experienced with the Lord with all whom they interacted.  Paul shared not only the gospel but also his life with the Thessalonians. (I Thess. 2:8) The apostles' intimate relationship with Jesus transformed their lives. Their genuine zeal for God and His Word compelled them to speak boldly, even at the risk of great persecution! (Acts 4:13-20)

If you choose to use The Christian: Called to Obedience as a tool to disciple another believer, it is imperative that you are first practicing the principles of obedience as a lifestyle before teaching them to your disciple. God's desire is that His truths be passed life to life rather than head to head.

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it - he will be blessed in what he does. Jas. 1: 22,25
